Last month La Galleria www.lagalleria.org in Pall Mall held a portrait exhibition featuring five artists, Brigite Bey (Sculptor), Margarita Schleifer, Raha Tabar, David Caldwell, and Daniel Shadbolt. This group show was impressive and I hope all of these talented individuals will go on to achieve greater success with their work and careers. Some are well established and already successfully selling their art and, hopefully, their show will further enhance their reputations.
I have been very busy over the Christmas period carrying out research and preparing for a couple of commissions. I am always reluctant to take the plunge when confronted with a blank canvas. This feeling never goes away and it remains a daunting prospect until the projects are well and truly underway. Here are some of the small experimental sketches I have been playing around with prior to starting the final versions.

In an effort to spur me on and perhaps gain inspiration from other artists, I also took a short break from my work in January and went to the London Art Fair at the Business Design Centre in Islington, hoping to learn, absorb and be inspired by what I saw. I wasn’t disappointed, and there was a wealth of excellent work, coupled with some pretentious rubbish and bad painting. Seeing good art is always a double-edged sword; it can inspire me to try and do better and, at the same time, create a feeling of inadequacy that my work is not good enough. It is important to be positive, however, and maintain a confident approach to everything I attempt – that’s one of my New Year resolutions as I work on the latest assignments!
