June/July 2018 Blog

Some sporadic attempts at painting over the last few weeks but again domestic demands have taken priority over my artistic efforts. There are also many new shows starting as usual – The BP Portraits award, The Royal Academy summer Exhibition and many more in and around London. There is also a Group Show at La Galleria but as things stand I haven’t really produced much worthy of showing so I have had to opt out this year. I am still trying to keep my hand in at portrait painting and am in the middle of a small sketch of the actress and singer Eleanor Tomlinson who plays Demelza in the BBC drama series Poldark which has just started again on BBC one. She has just brought out her first album of folk songs which is bound to sell quite well in view of the popularity of the series. As you can see, the likeness is not that good so I’ll have to revisit at a later date or maybe abandon it altogether!

Eleanor Tomlinson, Actress and Singer

I have also stumbled on a mistake I made a year or two back. Because of lack of storage space I destroyed a fairly large painting of a stormy seascape  and very much regret it now as it was heavily textured study in greys and blue greys. I posted it on my facebook art page and all my friends who viewed it agreed that it was a mistake so in future I’ll be more careful when I break up my work. Anyway I still have a photo so here it is :-
